A Short History
This recently restored colonial mansion, Terra Nova, was built in 1924 by Mr. H Alexander, a member of one of the wealthiest Kingstonian families as a wedding gift for his bride. A few years later, the Myers family, a name synonymous with the famous Myers Rum, bought the property. Some additions were made to the original structure, after which the now ‘great house’ was sold in 1937 to Mr. C.B. Lindo.

The Terra Nova again changed hands in 1938, when, Major Blackwell, who had fallen in love with this elegant home and the gracious surroundings, purchased it. During his ownership, the Terra Nova became famous for its stables; and is the birthplace of the well known record producer and hotelier, Chris Blackwell.

On August 31st 1959, the Hon. Abe Issa, Jamaica’s founding father of modern day tourism, officially opened the Terra Nova as a Restaurant and Hotel. The Terra Nova soon became one of the finest establishments in Kingston – a reputation which is enjoyed to this day. The Terra Nova, now the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel, known for its quiet elegance, excellent cuisine and remarkable service is now owned and operated by the Hussey family, one of Jamaica’s leading entrepreneurial groups.

The family remains committed to providing the highest level of service and hospitality.
